Project Overview:

NHS car parks are essential for providing timely access for staff, patients, and visitors, supporting smooth hospital operations. Proper maintenance ensures safety, accessibility, and efficiency, contributing to effective healthcare delivery.

The East Kilbride NHS Car Park refurbishment project focused on resurfacing and waterproofing parking areas using GCP Decseal systems. The project required extensive traffic management to ensure minimal disruption to NHS operations, with the car park remaining open throughout. Key strategies included weekend working to reduce daytime traffic interference, segregation of work zones with safety fencing, and clear pedestrian and vehicle traffic diversions. Continuous coordination with NHS management ensured emergency access and smooth operations during the project.

The scope of work involved multiple phases, starting with surface preparation, including mechanical removal of old coatings and vacuum blasting to clean the concrete. Crack repairs and the application of GCP Decseal resin coating were followed by waterproofing installation to protect the surface from future damage. The project also included line marking and demarcation of parking spaces, directional arrows, and other traffic guidance measures. Throughout the project, safety measures like welfare facilities and hazardous waste disposal were implemented, with dedicated teams overseeing traffic flow and parking availability.

The project was completed successfully, resurfacing 1,436m² of NHS parking without significant disruption. The waterproofing and resin coating enhanced the longevity of the surface, reducing future maintenance costs. Improved safety measures, including clear pedestrian walkways and well-managed traffic routes, were implemented. This project exemplifies the importance of effective traffic management and coordination in maintaining accessibility and safety in a live NHS environment while completing necessary infrastructure upgrades.
